Graffiti Analysis

May 28th, 2010 — 9:55am

This project looks pretty sick. And the good thing about it is, that even though it is bringing technology and graffiti/street art together, it’s not exploiting it with some mainstream adulteration.

Graffiti Analysis 2.0: Digital Blackbook from Evan Roth on Vimeo.

I think it is pretty tight how it not only renders the visual result of a tag/piece, but it focuses on capturing the “motion,” which is a big characteristic and and driving mechanism of defining the unique styles portrayed in graffiti and individuals that most would never be able to see or perceive. That is a finely tuned attribute of the craft that really isn’t a secret or anything, but it just isn’t something that is easily exposed or conveyed to some. It’s the “feel” of creating art, that even though this analysis project is getting really close to it, I’m still not sure if that can ever be transmitted precisely to everyone. It not only goes for visual art, but even other skills such as shooting a basketball, or playing the violin. Sometimes you just gotta’ “feel it.”

Customized DVS Coen Shoes

April 8th, 2010 — 1:37pm

I just finished personalizing my new pair of DVS Coen shoes. Unfortunately I don’t have a photo of the shoes prior to my hand-painted mods on the stripes for a  before & after comparison, but I think it is obvious.

The original “stripes” I painted were a basic charcoal grey.

Graffiti Taxonomy

April 1st, 2010 — 4:26pm

This is a pretty sick project researching hand styles characters from a variety of artists and different implementations including an installation of the data.

There is even a screencast in the video of some cross correlation with photos of graffiti and certain characters being analyzed.

Skate & Destroy Wood Sculptures – Haroshi

March 26th, 2010 — 10:32am

This is some pretty amazing wood sculpting with a unique way of recycling old skateboard decks as the medium.

Modern In Denver Fall Issue – My Artist Profile

October 4th, 2009 — 11:04am

I wanted to announce that the new Modern In Denver Fall issue is out!

This issue has a lot of great features and articles from the cover story, Visual Acoustics, “a New documentary that reveals the life, work and inspiration of photographer Julius Shulman” to Digital Scandanavia, “A Look at a collaborative cross-disciplinary art and design initiative asking students to engage in digital process-based research that explores multi-scalar design.”

Mixed in with these enticing features is my very first published Artist Profile! Melissa Belongea provided me an opportunity to speak about my art and my life in this 4 page spread (pages 76-79). Of course they couldn’t cover everything about me in those few paragraphs and photographs, I feel Belongea captured a lot of important aspects about my perspective on art, my growth, and inspiration.

Visit my recent works here:

I would like to thank Eddie Breidenbach for the profile photo he shot in a moments notice, and my girlfriend, Crystal, who also took a photo of me painting and has been a big inspiration with my art lately. Of Course, a shout out to Melissa Belongea & Modern In Denver Magazine for interviewing me and providing me this opportunity.

You can pick up an issue of the magazine at the following locations:
Tattered Cover
Mod Livin
MCA Denver
Composition
New Era Paint
Pearl Velo
Cultural Legacy Bookstore
The Kirkland Museum
BMOCA (Boulder)
Invironments (Boulder)

Thanks for the support at the Art Show!

July 5th, 2009 — 2:37pm

I’ll try to not make this so sappy…

I really wanted to send out a big Thank You to all of those who made it out to my art show with Path One Friday night at The Funky Buddha! The turnout was awesome and we had a banging time!

Title: Tu Pac Tu Early (Sold)

I saw a lot of friends, old faces & new, and even family (my 2 bros). I know a few made quite the trek to get out to Denver for the show, so I sincerely thank those who came out.

It’s really awesome to know that I have such great friends and family with a lot of support.

If I didn’t get to say hi to everyone, I apologize. It was a crazy night and there were a few people that I did not see and wish I did.

Unfortunately I didn’t get any photos of the night to post with this, but hopefully someone did.

Title: Koi Splash II (Sold)

If you were not able to make it, I have posted an online gallery. Some of the images are not very great and some pieces are incomplete online, because I was literally working on them until the day of.
visit: http://www.patrickhansen.com/galleria

There are a few pieces still for sale, so if you are interested, please contact me.

Some more shout outs to Michael, the Manager of The Buddha, the staff at the Buddha, Sounds Supreme & Low Key who threw down mad beats on the roof top and invited me to have my Art Show there, Todd Hebenstreit (Path One) for sharing the space with me and displaying his dope art, and especially to my girlfriend Crystal who supported me the past few months in the stressful process of getting ready and setting up.

You all ROCK!

ART SHOW @ Funky Buddha Denver -1st Friday July 3

June 17th, 2009 — 9:18pm

This is a quick post to get the word out that I will be having an art show on First Friday, July 3, 2009* at The Funky Buddha.

This will be my first art show ever!
I know… it’s been how many years?

I have also invited my boy Paths One (Todd Hebenstreit), to join me, so this show will be like an eye orgy!

!

Wait, there will be pleasing sounds for the ears and dance floor with DJ Sounds Supreme and Low Key will be on the decks throwing down the beats! These are some of the BEST DJ’s in Denver. Not just because they’re my boys, but because they are proven. Also, as a fellow DJ, I know I don’t have the skillz to keep up with these guys on the decks, so give me a mic!

Please make a note of this on your calender and try to make this event!

Bansky vs. Bristol Museum

The Bristol Museum is featuring a Bansky exhibition! This should definitely provide a unique experience at The Bristol, plus the exhibit is free!

Austistic Savant is No Idiot at Drawing!

March 25th, 2009 — 9:01pm

I caught wind of this on the Lewis and Floorwax mornign show here in Denver on 103.5 The Fox. I heard about it, but the radio can only convey so much. what they were speaking about and how this artist could draw from a super photographic memory sounded amazing. Even the stories from his childhood of drawing acurately from the age of 5 sounded too amazing to be true.

I’m going to do some more research on this artist, but have a look at this video. Steven Wilcher is autistic and very artistic.

Here is good post from O’Reilly Media about the brain as a camera.
